Brett Desmond, a brilliant computer programmer with a troubled past, is hired by a tech start-up where his predecessor created a top-secret behavior recognition program - R.O.P.E.R. - before going on a murder/suicide spree. Working on an insanely tight deadline and sleeping in the office, Brett grows close with one of the remaining testing staff, the enigmatic Nora. But the deeper Brett probes into the code, the more it takes on a life of its own...as R.O.P.E.R. begins to modify Brett's behavior to eerily resemble that of the dead programmer.
